T-shirt printing at home. How to make a print on a T-shirt: step by step instructions, necessary materials, tips, photos. Printing company logos on clothes

Printing your own t-shirt design is a fun and inexpensive way to make "signature" t-shirts for your band, sports team, or just spruce up your wardrobe with a t-shirt with an interesting design or pattern. To get started, buy a few plain T-shirts without a pattern and decide which pattern and what method you will apply it to them. This article provides instructions for applying a pattern in three different ways: stencil, screen print, and decal.

Steps

Applying a pattern through a stencil

    Prepare everything you need. To apply a pattern on a T-shirt through a stencil, you most likely already have everything you need at hand. If not, then you will need to visit an art supplies or arts and crafts store. You will need the following:

    • T-shirt. An ordinary one-color cotton T-shirt without a pattern will do just fine. Keep in mind that some inks and dyes may bleed through from the underside when printing on fabric, so choose a heavier fabric if this is not desired. The color of the t-shirt should be light enough (or dark enough, on the contrary) so that the color with which you will apply the drawing contrasts well with the background.
    • Stencil. You can buy a pre-made stencil from an art supply store, or you can make your own out of cardboard.
    • Paint or ink. Perfect for t-shirt printing acrylic paint for fabric. You may also be able to use fabric ink or other dye. Find a dye that won't come off in the washing machine.
    • Small paint roller and paint tray. The roller is needed in order to apply paint to the fabric evenly. If you don't have a roller, you can use a wide brush.
    • Scotch. The adhesive tape is needed so that the stencil stays straight while you apply the paint. Masking tape works great.
  1. Wash your shirt. A cotton t-shirt may shrink a little on the first wash, so it's important to wash and dry it before applying the design. If you apply the design first and then wash the T-shirt, the design may deform. When the T-shirt is dry, iron it.

    Prepare your workspace. Cover a flat, hard surface with wrapping paper or old newspaper. Place the T-shirt on top and straighten it so that there are no bumps or wrinkles anywhere. Place the stencil on the t-shirt where you want the design to be. Tape the edges of the stencil with tape to keep it in place.

    • If you're worried that the ink will seep through the fabric, place a piece of cardboard inside the T-shirt. Thus, the paint will not seep to the other side of the wrong side.
    • To avoid paint splattering your pretty dress shirt, put on something older before you get to work.
  2. Prepare the roller. Pour the paint into the tray. Dip the roller into the tray several times so that it is evenly covered with paint. Make a test stroke on a sheet of paper.

    Paint your t-shirt. With firm and confident strokes, fill in all the holes on the stencil with paint. You can cover the stencil itself with paint for a few centimeters, the main thing is not to go beyond it.

    Remove the stencil. Carefully remove the stencil from the T-shirt and set it aside. Do not touch the T-shirt until the paint is completely dry.

    Iron your shirt. When the paint is completely dry, iron the design through a thin cloth (such as a thin towel) with an iron on high heat. Thanks to this, the paint will sit tightly on the fabric and will not come off.

    Wear and wash your T-shirt. There are no special restrictions on wearing a T-shirt with a homemade pattern. The first few times the T-shirt should be washed by hand in cold water. Over time, it can be washed in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry.

    Prepare your workspace. Cover a flat, hard surface with wrapping paper or old newspaper. Place the T-shirt on top and straighten it so that there are no bumps or wrinkles anywhere. Place the stencil on the T-shirt where the design should be. Place the grid on top.

    Apply paint to the grid. Pour a spoonful of paint onto the top of the mesh and spread it evenly down with a rubber roller. Roll the mesh a second time, now across the frame.

    • It may take certain time. Try learning how to get by with just two strokes of the roller: one vertical and one horizontal. This method is optimal for applying a sufficient amount of paint evenly.
    • Make sure that the edges of the sheet of paper extend beyond the edges of the grid frame, otherwise there will be an unplanned streak of paint on the T-shirt.
  3. Remove the mesh from the T-shirt and let the paint dry. Carefully remove the grid and check the quality of the drawing. The paint must dry completely before the T-shirt can be worn and washed.

    Reuse the mesh. When you remove the mesh from the t-shirt, the paper stencil will most likely stick to the paint on it. You can use the same grid to duplicate the design on another T-shirt. Repeat the previous steps for as many printed t-shirts as you plan to make.

    Rinse the mesh. Water-based screen printing ink dries quickly, after which it is quite difficult to clean it from any surface. After you finish using the mesh, rinse it thoroughly in warm water.

Drawing with decal

    Prepare everything you need. To apply a pattern on a T-shirt using this method, you will need: a T-shirt, a pack of hot-melt (decal) paper and a printer. Decal paper can be purchased at most art and craft stores.

    Come up with a drawing."Draw" the image on your computer, or use an existing photo or other image. What's good in this method drawing - you do not need to worry about possible restrictions on the number of colors.

IN Lately clothes with various prints became very popular. It perfectly reflects the character and personality of its owner. The most widespread application of drawings on T-shirts, but it is not necessary to dwell only on this part of the wardrobe.

Such products will not only complement your favorite image, but also become a creative present.

If you are seriously wondering how to make a print on fabric with your own hands, then we are in a hurry to please you.

There are several proven ways to do this handmade:

  • using a color printer;
  • using acrylic paints;
  • silkscreen.

Each type is quite simple and concise. You will need a minimum of effort to create your own design masterpiece.

Drawing on fabric using a printer

Time goes by and technology changes. A couple of decades ago, such needlework was possible only with the help of Chinese stickers, which did not differ high quality, quickly lost the original appearance, wiped off. Today, to solve the question of how to make a drawing on fabric with your own hands, a home printer will help you, directly textile product, thermal transfer paper and household iron.

To get a high-quality pattern and not ruin clothes, give up synthetic models. The iron will simply melt the fabric under the influence of high temperature. Things that are at least 80% composed of are preferred.

The drawing process is quite simple:

  1. You need to find a suitable image layout or create it yourself in a graphics editor, but do not forget that there will be a mirror image.
  2. Transfer the design to a carefully smoothed thing, attaching a sheet of paper with the image down. To do this, iron the sketch with a hot iron for 1-2 minutes.
  3. To avoid damaging the print, carefully remove the sheet of paper from the surface of the textile.

This is how you get a stylish update to your wardrobe in such a simple way. There is only one thing to consider when choosing thermal transfer paper. It comes in several varieties depending on the purpose. There are products for light and dark fabrics, as well as for different models of printers.

Acrylic Wonders

How to make a print on a T-shirt yourself if there is no printer to print the layout? In this case, the second way to create exclusive images on clothes is suitable. Artistic skills or a special stencil will help you. If you are not different special skill drawing, it is unlikely that it will be possible to create a complex sketch, but everyone can add a share of creativity to their wardrobe.

Do-it-yourself print on fabric will turn out only with special acrylic paints. Working with them is not entirely easy, since you need to observe a certain speed and technology:

  • the paint dries within 15 minutes, it will be impossible to fix something later;
  • You need to apply a thin layer, otherwise the drawing will not dry out and may be smeared.

If you strictly follow the instructions, then difficulties should arise in this process.

How to make a print:

  • it is necessary to prepare a stencil with an image or text;
  • carefully iron a T-shirt or other thing that you plan to decorate;
  • lay a solid foundation
  • fill the stencil with acrylic paint using a sponge;
  • if necessary, correct the drawing with a brush;
  • after 24 hours, iron the item through a thin cloth.

If you have talent and you are fond of creativity, then you can make an original drawing using a regular paint brush.

silkscreen

This method is essentially similar to the previous one. Only as a dye use a special photographic emulsion. The paint on the fabric penetrates through the stencil mesh, dries, and then illuminates. The next step in creating a personal masterpiece is washing the stencil with water. At the same time, unlit areas of the grid are cleared, which become the printing element.

The advantage of this method of image transfer is that there are no restrictions on working with materials. You can apply it not only on clothes, but also on dishes or plastic products.

A print on a T-shirt with your own hands will help create a unique image and stand out from others. This is a fashionable and stylish way to update a boring thing. You just have to choose a convenient and affordable method of transferring the picture to the desired surface.

Love to look original, but don't know how to do it? There is an exit. In this article, we suggest you use the method of applying your original print to a T-shirt using thermal transfer paper. If you do everything carefully and slowly, you are guaranteed a high-quality and good drawing on a T-shirt.

All that is needed

To apply or, rather, transfer a picture from the virtual world to the real world, we need a printer, a T-shirt itself, an iron and thermal transfer paper. Such paper should be sold in electronics stores and not only - if you search well, then it will be quite easy to find it.

The T-shirt must be one color, without any pre-printed designs and logos, the percentage of cotton must be at least 85%. This is very important, because otherwise the design simply will not be transferred to the surface of the T-shirt.

We advise you to take a white fabric for the first time, because all inaccuracies during the transfer process will be most noticeable on it, and besides, thermal transfer paper should be bought for a certain color, and white is much easier to find, and it will cost most likely cheaper.

preparations

To begin with, we need to decide on the pattern. It can be anything: from your favorite movie character or mythical creature to the most ordinary logos and inscriptions. After that, you need to edit the drawing and expand it to a mirror location.

This need is due to the fact that when transferring a drawing from paper to a T-shirt, the display will change to a mirror image again, and as a result we will get the original, which was intended by you. Next, you should adjust the pattern to size and other parameters, and then print it on thermal transfer paper.

Printing

T-shirt printing is the most important part of the process. Before starting, you need to lay out the selected T-shirt on an ironing board or other surface prepared for this.

The place where the print is applied to the T-shirt should be even and smooth so that there are no problems when transferring the image. Then you need to put the thermal transfer paper with the printed pattern on the T-shirt.

If you want to place the drawing strictly in the middle, try to mark the place of application with a ruler or other measuring instruments. In addition, before you start transferring the print to a T-shirt, you still have a lot of time.

Turn on the iron at maximum power and after heating, iron the thermal transfer paper on the T-shirt for about 3-4 minutes. At the same time, no additional fabric needs to be placed on the paper itself. Don't worry, the print on the T-shirt won't deteriorate due to high temperatures - paper and cotton can easily withstand the heat.

After ironing, wait about five minutes for the joint to cool down. Then you can carefully remove the paper that we no longer need. Try to do it slowly, without sudden movements - in this case, you have almost a 100% chance of a complete and high-quality transfer of the print to the T-shirt. Ready.

For reference: the print itself should stay on the fabric for a long time and withstand a fairly large number of washes. Naturally, over time it will fade, but there's nothing to be done - even branded T-shirts suffer from such a disease.

In this article, we're going to look at ways you can create your own unique t-shirt design that can help you make money working on low budgets.

In our affiliate program to use this article

To begin with, let's analyze the purpose of this article in general.

When promoting a store, many of our partners run into one of the main barriers - competition in niche topics. This competition stems from the non-uniqueness of the product provided. There are quite a few manufacturers on the market that have t-shirts with, say, a DotA logo or Pokemon. And the most popular prints on clothes somehow coincide, as companies copy top models from each other.

As a result, you have created a store, promote it almost perfectly, and the result is weak.

What to do?

A large number of partners, seeing the already current variety of designs, do not create anything new and take it ready. Yes, you can find items for sale from ready-made prints. But the efficiency of this work is extremely low. Well, unless you have the budget to advertise on all topics at once :)

But you can go easier and more efficiently. You have the opportunity to create your own fashion design, and in the future even a model line (if you are a talented designer).

What to put on clothes and earn?

1) Your interests

Every person by the age of 20 (and some even earlier) becomes a specialist in some field. Both couch analysts and public surfer girls in VK. Everyone knows any popular topics at the moment. Use and monetize this knowledge. Whether it's a popular meme from VK or a change in the logo of a football team.

Always remember that you always have colleagues of interest who will be interested in your prints.

2) Popular trends of designer stores

Offline shopping is always in trend. Why, for example, if you don’t see a cool thing with an interesting inscription or drawing, don’t transfer it to your store? (The ones that don't directly mention the brand)

By making a unique stylish item, you will gain an advantage in this target audience.

3) Trending Searches

Another way to earn unique product is to keep track of those requests that are gaining popularity. How can they be distinguished from “regular” popular queries?

Everything is pretty simple. Go to wordstat and enter any type of clothing. For example, T-shirts. We find thematic queries.

and select "query history".

We enter your request and track its popularity

If it appeared and continues to gain popularity within 4-8 months, then it is suitable.

But do not rush to run and make prints. First you need to check if the niche is already occupied. The easiest way is to enter your query in the search bar. If the entire first page of the issue is filled with quality products that are fully relevant to the topic and only online stores, then it may no longer make sense to create prints (unless you have original idea or pictures).

If the request meets all the criteria, then run to prepare materials and send prints for sale!

4) Western markets

Many ideas in all areas of life are copied from Western models.

The niche for clothing with prints is no exception. Find the most popular sites in the US and Europe, take popular and current prints and transfer them to your store.

Thus, you will get a unique idea for the CIS market and be able to get ahead of the upcoming trend.

One example of such sites is https://www.redbubble.com/ .

The same scheme can be applied to clothes sent from China, benefiting from fast delivery and cash on delivery.

5) Allusions, collections, shifters and the like

Combining 2 themes in one is always interesting, and even more so if done with high quality.

As an example, you can take such a print where "Fantastic Beasts" and "Pokemon" are combined.

As you understand, there are an infinite number of such things. The more original and logical your prefabricated drawing is, the more it will be able to attract visitors.

6) Your fantasies and thoughts

Feel free to use your fantasies and thoughts if you find it interesting. After all, famous designers have won popularity and love. Create your own prints and increase your sales!

How to draw on a T-shirt?

In the first part of our article, we will tell you how, using the simplest tools and paints for fabrics, and even without special skills, you can fantastically change your clothes, giving it a unique, individual style!

Consider the process of applying a pattern to a fabric with aerosol dyes using the example of a regular T-shirt of a uniform color. We will tell you how to give an interesting texture to the fabric of a T-shirt using the so-called "knot technique", and how to apply an original pattern to it using a stencil. Note that these two methods of working with fabric can be used both separately and perfectly combined with each other.
The T-shirt can be new or used, it is only important that it be made from natural textiles (cotton, silk, etc.) or, in the case of mixed fabrics, include no more than 20% synthetics. We recommend washing a new T-shirt before dyeing to remove softening additives.

What do you need to dye a T-shirt at home?

Step_3 Lay out the T-shirt horizontally on a level surface. Carefully cover the area around the painting with old newspapers or a special covering film, fix the covering material with masking tape.

Step_4 Carefully attach the stencil to the T-shirt using double-sided tape or spray adhesive for temporary fixation. Try to ensure that the stencil fits as closely as possible to the fabric. Note that it is aerosol glue that provides the maximum tightness.

Step_5 Before starting work, shake the paint in the aerosol can well; shake it for at least 30 seconds. Apply spray paint in smooth, circular motions. For better coloring of the material, it is desirable to apply the paint at least 2 times, allowing the previous layer to dry for 10 minutes.

Step_7 Just like in the "knot technique", you can apply patterns, ornaments or inscriptions in the form of clear, dense lines to the drawing created using a stencil using colored liners containing water-based textile paint.

Now that you've got the basics of working with fabric dyes at home using a simple t-shirt as an example, you can start experimenting with your clothes to give them an unusual, dressy look. We are sure that your imagination, multiplied by the almost limitless possibilities of a multi-color palette of paints for fabrics, will surely create interesting samples of creative thought.
