When looking at the digital index, it seems that this product is the development of the legendary veteran . In fact, the 221st is much closer to aircraft technology, the name of the developer obliges.

The Central Institute of Aviation Fuels and Oils did create this lubricant primarily for use in air. This confirms one of the properties of CIATIM 221: reliable operation in rarefied air, and even in high vacuum.

To match the characteristics, and exorbitant price: from the series "Ciatims" general purpose(not counting the offers of narrow specialization) this is perhaps the most expensive product.

The fundamental difference is in the base: it is organosilicon. Accordingly, the thickener consists of calcium soap.

CIATIM 221 characteristics and application

Outwardly, this lubricant differs little from its analogues: it looks like a vaseline-shaped ointment, with a smooth, shiny surface. Color from dirty yellow to light brown. The shade does not affect the characteristics of CIATIM 221 in any way, and depends only on the type of additives used by the manufacturer in accordance with GOST 9433 80.

About the properties and characteristics of CIATIM 221 lubricant - video

  • tensile strength of at least 120 Pa (a little, but quite enough to work on high-speed friction units);
  • sufficiently high dropping point: liquefaction occurs when the temperature reaches 200°C;
  • an interesting feature: even after the transition to a liquid state (up to boiling), the properties are restored after cooling;
  • The 221st does not dissolve in water, while it is excessively hygroscopic: when water is absorbed, properties change, resistance to low temperatures decreases;
  • virtually immune to chemical exposure, even in the form of extraneous vapors;
  • does not interact with rubber and polymer compounds;
  • maximum residual pressure at which the operating parameters do not change: not less than 666.5 Pa;
  • certified operating temperature range: -60°C to +150°C;
  • convenient for long-term stocks: properties do not change during 40 years of storage.

Such characteristics limit the use of lubricants:

Information: CIATIM 221 is non-toxic, neutral to the skin and mucous membranes, does not emit harmful vapors when heated.

What is CIATIM 221F used for?

This is a development of the 221 line, designed to level out some of the shortcomings of the base lubricant. A specially developed fluorine additive is added to the main composition.

Thanks to this, the working properties change dramatically:

  1. Improved anti-wear and extreme pressure performance, especially under heavy load.
  2. Increased heat resistance allows you to work in loaded nodes without loss of properties.
  3. Eliminated hygroscopicity: this makes it possible to use in a humid environment.
  4. Thanks to fluoroplastic inclusions, the noise during the operation of friction and rotation units is reduced.

Which is better, Litol 24 or CIATIM 221?

It is not correct to compare them as a direct analogue. "Litol" is more versatile, in addition, it does an excellent job with "water procedures".

However, the average characteristics do not make it possible to use it in loaded high-speed units: for example, precision measuring instruments.

In this sense, the 221st has no substitutes. Of course, these lubricants cannot be mixed with each other, calcium and lithium compounds are chemically incompatible.

CIATIM 201 and 221, what is the fundamental difference?

First of all, in the basis and composition of the thickener. It is these components that determine the applicability. The 201st is a typical economy class product. And the 221st is a high-tech development for use in aviation and precision instrumentation. They get along in one car (mechanism), only in different nodes.

How does it differ from 221 in terms of application?

  1. 201 should not be used in contact with rubber.
  2. 221 can operate at higher temperatures.
  3. The shelf life differs by almost 10 times in favor of the 221st.
  4. Accordingly, CIATIM 221 is 3-5 times more expensive.

Ciatim-221 grease reduces wear and sliding friction of mating parts, is recommended for use in units where it is impossible to determine the degree of wear of working surfaces, as well as for lubricating moving elements of rocker/ball/roller mechanisms. It is a promising heat-resistant material based on silicone oil, which remains stable even when boiled. Reliably protects friction units and mating surfaces, it is used when it is impossible to use oils, when it is difficult to replenish and when it is necessary to seal stuffing boxes, taps and threaded connections. Stable demand for this product is due to an affordable price and practical packaging. The name CIATIM grease received from the abbreviated name of the lubricant developer organization - Central Institute Aviation Fuels And Oils.

Composition and low temperature properties

The purpose of the lubricant Ciatim 221 is determined by its physico-chemical properties. Of the main features it should be noted:

  • appearance at ordinary temperature - soft, ointment-like, non-flowing material;
  • family - calcium lubricants;
  • texture - homogeneous, smooth, reminiscent of vaseline;
  • color - white, yellowish, light shades of gray or brown;
  • base - organosilicon liquid "132-24" in the total volume up to 88%, please note that its replacement with other products is not allowed according to the technological regulations;
  • thickener - calcium soap or calcium stearate-acetate in a volume of up to 10%;
  • to improve the viscosity properties and adhesion, as well as to increase the thermal-oxidative stability, up to 5% of an antioxidant additive is additionally introduced;
  • the dropping point is above 200 degrees, and the evaporation rate is not more than 2% per hour at a temperature of 150 degrees;
  • colloidal stability is only 7%, which guarantees long-term storage without changing properties and the possibility of long-term operation in nodes without the need for replacement;
  • corrosion tests - withstands;
  • packaging - storage in leaky containers is prohibited due to hygroscopicity, tin cans are recommended, less often aluminum tubes;
  • a guarantee from the manufacturer in an original hermetically sealed container - five years from the date of issue, however, the lubricant retains its properties for up to 40 years;

Lubrication features that appear during operation:

  • insoluble in water, hygroscopic, remains stable at boiling point, but at high humidity it hardens and loses its original characteristics;
  • used as a multifunctional lubricant in difficult operating conditions that require resistance to washout, to low (up to -60C) and high (up to 150C) temperatures and their sudden changes;
  • with a short heating up to 180C, it does not lose functionality and does not harden;
  • the manufacturer focuses on the fact of incompatibility with other lubricants - even accidental mixing should be excluded, including products with lithium based on petroleum oils;
  • the special additives included in the composition increase the efficiency of work - friction units and metal-to-metal mating surfaces are protected from corrosion, scuffing and wear;
  • fire and explosion-proof, does not apply to self-igniting products;
  • inertness to polymers makes it possible to use the product for lubricating the surface of sealing rings of pneumatic cylinders, as well as for metal-rubber surfaces operating in vacuum;
  • refers to non-toxic products, safe for respiratory organs and skin, however, the manufacturer recommends using PPE when working;
  • colloidal stability - high, which helps to maintain the consistency of the lubricant;
  • chemically resistant - used to seal threads, valves, glands;
  • for friction pairs metal and metal rubber;
  • is able to ensure trouble-free operation of the nodes of most modern devices, incl. and devices with a rotation speed of up to 10 thousand revolutions per minute.

Scope of use

The product is a multifunctional grease that works with various loads, in a wide temperature range and at any speed. It finds application in many industries, including instrument-making, metallurgical, automotive, agricultural, aviation, petrochemical and other industrial sectors.

  • mating surfaces of metal-rubber working in high vacuum;
  • control and measuring and radio devices, as well as mechanisms with a rotation speed of up to 10,000 min-1;
  • drive mechanisms, as well as all types of gears;
  • lens mechanisms for photo and film equipment;
  • navigation systems, counting devices, automatic control and devices with a frequency of full revolutions up to 10 thousand per minute;
  • rolling bearings of electric machines of control and monitoring systems in lightly loaded gearboxes;
  • pneumatic brake boosters, steering racks and vehicle suspension;
  • many other elements - it is enough to check with the manufacturer or its official representative for compatibility.

Functional analogues

Among the products of Russian and foreign production, the following can be noted as analogues according to their functional purpose:

  • Mobil SHC - a slightly wider temperature range, hygroscopic in water, retains stability during oxidative reactions;
  • HUSKEY HVS-100 Silicone Grease and CIATIM-201 grease - protects aggregate bearings from oxidation, wear and scuffing aircraft nodes of friction pairs and screw pairs in the range of -60 / +120 degrees, the composition also does not contain mechanical impurities;
  • O-Grease - recommended for operation in the Far North, often serves as a single lubricant;
  • Mobiltemp - suitable for conservation and lubrication of outdoor apparatus, friction points and mating surfaces are reliably protected from moisture and corrosion, but leakage of the product is not excluded due to its low mechanical stability;
  • Aeroshell "Grease15" - protects aircraft bearings from friction units from the possibility of corrosion in the temperature range from - 73 to +232 degrees Celsius;
  • Unirex S2 - the upper limit of the operating temperature is 200C, and the dropping point is 280 degrees, it is resistant to oxidation and is characterized by anti-corrosion properties, suitable for lubricating electrical machines of control systems and instruments, but requires preliminary clarification of compatibility with rubber and polymer materials, as softening and loss of shape of the seals may occur.

CIATIM-221 grease is insoluble in water, hygroscopic, and remains stable even when boiled. this lubricant has found a field of application in electrical machines at temperatures from minus 60 to 150 degrees, in addition to electric motors and rubber-metal friction pairs. When moisture is absorbed, it becomes compacted and has low anti-wear characteristics. Before applying the lubricant, the assembly must be cleaned of previous materials. The anti-wear properties of the lubricant are quite high.

TsIATIM 221 high-temperature grease is used in a wide range of sign-variable operating environment temperatures from 60 to +150 degrees.

Application:

CIATIM 221 grease is most often used in the maintenance of bearing assemblies of electric motors, adjustment and control units, various devices, incl. and operated in vacuum conditions, at a pressure of 0.0066 atmospheres.

During preventive maintenance of drying chambers, computer technology, for lubrication of ball bearings in fans in high and low temperature operation.

The lubricant does not dissolve in aqueous solutions, has a high hygroscopicity and does not lose its working qualities even when exposed to steam and boiling water. When absorbing vapors or water, it condenses.

CIATIM 221 is inert to rubber polymers and plastics, does not cause their swelling and destruction, and has unique performance characteristics.
