Even millionaires think that money is never enough. We will show you how to stop worrying about your financial position.

If you have no job, nowhere to live and nothing to eat, then worrying about lack of money is entirely justified. But let's be honest: in most cases, we are frustrated that there are not enough funds for less pressing expenses. For example, a new phone, a vacation trip or a trendy dress.

The stress to which we doom ourselves with worries about the financial situation is exhausting, depressing and leads to various health problems. Let's figure out what to do so as not to experience constant nervous tension.

Decide why you need more money

In most cases, we dream not about the money itself, but about the happiness that it should bring. In reality, wealth is by no means a guarantee of happiness.

Many problems cannot be solved with money. Finances do not affect love and friendship in any way, they will not make you a more talented and respected person. In some situations, money will not even help improve health. So why are you obsessed with them?

Analyze your life - and you will understand that in fact you are experiencing for other reasons. Perhaps you lack the attention and support of others. Or do you want to open up professional field, but not out yet. Or maybe you want to join a new social circle, people from which are financially more secure. Whatever the reason, it's not about the amount of money.

Save more

Money set aside for a "rainy day" can save you in the very difficult situation. For example, if you suddenly lose your job or have health problems. The created reserve will allow you not to worry about this and know that you always have insurance in case of an unforeseen event.

Earn more

This advice may seem mocking to you, but nevertheless. If you want to have more money (and therefore worry less about it), you have to work harder. We do not suggest that you live at work: in the age of the Internet, finding a part-time job at home is quite easy.

Get into copywriting or web design, teach people to knit on Skype, do something that brings you pleasure and is better than others. Also, you can always sell clothes you no longer wear or books you no longer read.

The main trick is not to spend the money earned in this way on everyday needs. They must be immediately sent to the rest of the savings. You will be surprised how much your stock will increase in a year.

Be grateful

Be grateful for what you have today. Whom to thank? First of all, yourself. And then all the higher powers that you believe in - God, fate, luck. This psychological technique will help you escape from the captivity of feelings and apathy. You will see that you have already achieved a lot.

Awareness of your own success will provide you with enthusiasm and determination to conquer new heights, including financial ones.

Many people set noble goals for themselves: they offer solutions to the world's problems, they dream of helping others and doing something for future generations. I was very different: a well-fed child from a middle-class family. I was sure that I would become rich and that I would have abs. I had no idea how to achieve this, but these were my cherished dreams.

And I brought them to life. But on the way to my dream, I had to reconsider my values and suffer a lot.

stupid priorities

I have been chasing money for many years. For me, a child of the 1980s, wealth was the American dream. Most of my friends also dreamed about it. But money is like siren songs: the pursuit of it dooms people to emotional bankruptcy.

Getting rich is hard, and there is simply no easy path to success. You have to give yourself completely to your work, create something so valuable that people are ready to pay for it money earned with sweat and blood. Listening to the songs of the sirens promising big houses, luxury cars and yachts, remember: you can crash on the rocks of many years of exhausting work and achieve nothing. If you are doing something just for the sake of money, then at some point ask yourself: is the money worth the effort? And answer: no! No one guarantees you a lot of money, but you will definitely experience pain.

Why are people so obsessed with money? Because money is powerful. They change our lives even more than we think. They drive you crazy. But no one learns from the mistakes of others.

It is not worth it

That happiness cannot be bought with money, I have experienced in my own skin. For eight and a half years I was a co-owner of a technology company and a top manager. He made a lot of money, but he was unhappy.

It turns out that you can be rich and successful and hate your life. I thought. I'm tired of waiting for a brighter future that may never come. I wanted to be happy today.

Ancient Occupation

People have been chasing money since time immemorial, although they do not always understand what really drives them. I wanted to be rich because the rich aroused my admiration and envy. I thought they had an amazing life and believed that money was synonymous with happiness and fulfillment.

Money is a great driving force. For money, you can go on a trip, launch a startup, build a school. Buy a house, a car or send a rocket into space. Therefore, money will forever remain a universal obsession.

Despite its power, money cannot change the way you feel about yourself.

But, despite all the power, money cannot change your attitude towards yourself. We want to be successful and cool, we want to be admired by everyone, and more importantly, we want to be admired by ourselves. But money cannot affect feelings. Your self-doubt will not go away if you start earning a lot. If you're proud of yourself, it probably has nothing to do with money.

Hard work does not guarantee wealth. You can create ten companies, but none of them will be successful. When I realized this, I decided to change my life. He handed over his share in the business to his partners and left. My plan was simple: reduce needs as much as possible, move with my wife to Greece, learn the language and write - writing has always brought me joy.

I was driving home and felt like a mountain had been lifted from my shoulders. For many years I was unhappy. I completely forgot what it's like to look forward to the future. But I never went to Greece. I didn't even get home. One phone call changed my life.

Right way

Business partners called. They invited me to dinner with the words: "We can work without you, but we don't want to." These words changed me, made me think of business not as a source of enrichment, but as a community.

I realized that human relationships are more important than business. For a long time I adjusted my value system to the pursuit of money and suffered because of it. It became clear that if we want to continue to work together, we need to change priorities and do what we are really passionate about. Something we will do with love every day, even if we don't succeed. We decided together to sell the business to build something new.

As soon as we stopped focusing on money, we immediately began to earn it

We wanted to do something valuable for people, promised each other that money would no longer rule us, and created a company. Now we focused on what is of value to our customers and employees. And as soon as we stopped focusing on money, we immediately began to earn it. The company ranked second on the Inc. 500 (a list of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the US. - Approx. ed.) and was soon worth more than a billion dollars.

We built it in one day, while the old company took years to build. And, most importantly, we experienced joy.

New landmarks

I learned to think like an entrepreneur, and it was the most significant transformation in my life. Previously, I was aimed at stability, the absence of change, but gradually began to strive for personal growth. I took the red pill, just like in The Matrix. One day I woke up and saw the real world. I stopped thinking that my talents and mind are immutable, I realized that my brain is able to adapt, so I can succeed in anything if I get rid of false beliefs. I stopped thinking that I wasn't good enough. I realized that I'm not good enough yet.

Becoming myself, I was able to realize childhood dreams. My priorities today are friendships, creating value for people, solving global problems, having fun, sticking to a dream, autonomy, achieving mastery and, last but not least, getting money.

Now I know what is important to me, what gives me energy and how to monetize the benefits that I bring to people. And from this I feel that I am truly realized. I still have bad days, but I find it easier to deal with them because I know exactly what I want. As the legendary concentration camp psychologist Viktor Frankl said, if you know what you're suffering for, you can endure anything.

***

There is no universal secret to success. My story is just one of many, but it shows that anyone can be successful if they enjoy what they do. Try to understand what gives you energy and how you can do something useful for others. Strive to become better, and money will definitely appear.

But if you dream of press cubes, you will have to suffer. But this is the subject of a separate discussion.

about the author

Tom Bilyeu - Entrepreneur, motivational speaker, co-founder of startup Quest Nutrition.

The famous millionaire Aristotle Onassis owns a wonderful phrase of its kind: "Do not chase money, go towards it." It seems that this statement is nothing more than a simple play on words. But this is a delusion. Before us is the real recipe for prosperity: money lies in front of you, but it disappears at the same moment when you start chasing it. It is much more effective to wait until they fall into the trap prepared by you. To be convinced of this, it is enough to look at the modern Western economy. What I am going to tell now will seem unrealistic to most of our compatriots, but this, believe me, is the pure truth.

All of you, of course, know that there is such a thing as "credit cards". But here it is necessary to make a reservation: our (i.e., domestic) credit cards and their (i.e., Western - the golden billion) credit cards are two completely different things. How does this tool work in Russia? Here it is somewhat reminiscent of a savings book, with the only difference being that you can go directly with it to a store or a restaurant, where, if you make a purchase, some amount of money will be deleted from it. That is, they will be crossed out from the book for you, and then your money will be received from the bank where your account is located. A Russian credit card, in other words, facilitates the process of interaction between the seller and the buyer due to the fact that the settlement between them takes place by "bank transfer".

Western credit card is a completely different breed, this is a real credit map. What does this clarification mean? Literally the following: you pay not with your own money, but with money that you immediately, on the spot, when purchasing goods or services, take a loan from the bank. In other words, if in the first case (“Russian credit card”) you pay with your hard-earned money already given to you as a reward, then in the second case (“Western credit card”) you pay with bank money, i.e. with the money that you have not earned yet, but you plan to earn and, accordingly, give it to this bank.

That is, the "western credit card" allows you to live in debt. For us Russians, this is completely unusual and even wild, it seems dangerous to us, it seems to us that "it's somehow embarrassing to borrow." But in the West, this once attitude to money has now changed dramatically. Everyone there lives on credit - they buy real estate on credit and pay off debts for decades, they buy cars on credit, they relax on credit, they have fun on credit, etc.

If you figure it out, it turns out that it is very convenient. For example, we are forced to huddle in communal apartments, saving for our own apartment, which we will receive only in extreme old age; use public transport, hoping that someday we will have the money to get our own car; we have to save up for years for a tourist trip abroad, etc., etc.

The Western lending system does things differently, it says, “Why wait? Take everything now, use it right now, and then give it back!” Well, really, why not start right away, from a young age, to live in a separate apartment? Anyway, you save up for it, put it off, but here you immediately start using it and gradually put it off. This system is convenient for all participants in the economic process. To buyers - since they can buy everything at once, start living normally, and, to the best of their ability and ability, give back the money they owe, to manufacturers -

because they sell everything at once, without waiting for the notorious "purchasing power" of citizens to increase (otherwise, it may never grow at all, because these citizens themselves, in turn, are producers and need to their goods were in demand, otherwise they would go bankrupt, and the whole economy would go to hell). This is also convenient for the state, because now it does not need to force its citizens to work and introduce articles on punishment for "parasitism" into the Criminal Code. People themselves are ready to work, and tirelessly, because they do not want to lose everything that they have received from the loans they have made. That is, everyone is really happy.

What is this system based on? On the totality of mutual interests of all parties: the state needs its economy to grow, and for this its citizens must work; citizens want to live like human beings, and not sometime in the "bright future", but immediately, so they agree to work; finally, the producer always has a consumer, creates goods and thereby improves the state national economy that for the state is real happiness, therefore it supports banking system, facilitates her work, guarantees her activity, etc., etc. In short, the circle is closed, everyone is happy, and especially happy, paradoxically,

the banks themselves. After all, banks earn not on the fact that they have a lot of money, but on the fact that a lot of money passes through them, and they “serve” accounts (banks receive interest on the money that has passed through them). In such a situation, almost all the money that is there passes through banks without even being cashed out (100 dollar bills, as you probably know, go around the world, not inside the USA, where some people even seem to never really see them ): budget money, funds of capitalists, wages of workers, their spending, etc. - all this property passes and runs inside banks - from one account to another, leaving in them, in these banks themselves, some trifling percentage, which in total with such a mass Money turns out to be just gigantic.

Here is such a fantastic, extraordinarily complex system behind each individual "Western credit card". But why am I telling all this? And here's what! We all live according to the old Bendera principle: “money in the morning - chairs in the evening”, which is an obvious and desperate pursuit of the “golden calf”. The West, as we could see, lives based on a fundamentally different ideology: “in the morning, chairs are money in the evening, and if you can’t do it in the evening, then bring it in if possible.” That is, no one there runs after any money, but simply walks around and prepares a place for them, and the “holy place”, as you know, is never empty. What is the result? Well, it is hardly necessary to illustrate it in any special way - you yourself know how it is with them there and how it is with us here.

The fact that people live on credit means literally the following: no one demands “money in advance”, no one insists on “prepayment”. The logic of interaction here is just the opposite. Briefly, it can be formulated as follows: take our product, we are sure that you will like it, because it good product; if you like it, then you will pay, and if you don’t like it, it doesn’t matter, someone else will like it; we are not afraid to lose, we want you not to lose anything, so take it; we are not trying to squeeze your money out of you, we want you to want to use what we produce. Surprisingly, this system works, and the one we use, unfortunately, does not stand up to criticism.

Remember: you, of course, should not give up money (or any of its analogues), but stop striving for their acquisition. If we are trying, as they say now, to "make money", then we simply find ourselves psychologically incapable of investing it, we instinctively expect profit before investing, and this is unjustified. We are accustomed to being interested not in the prospects of work (of a particular activity), but in salary and fees. But the prospect of work guarantees a good fee, and a good fee, unfortunately or fortunately, does not guarantee anything. Give your “chairs” and then you will receive “money”, the reverse order, although we are used to it, in modern world does not work.

And here is one more detail, which, however, is self-evident: you should not run after money, but you simply have to make sure that they want to visit you or surrender to you (this is as you please). There is a huge amount of money around, it's not gold, it's something that is born in the process of work. Look for opportunities, not money, and then the money will come to you. If you ignore the opportunities that life gives you and count on quick dividends, then nothing will come of it.

Sketch from psychotherapeutic practice: “Either a bed, or an allowance!”

Do you know how "slavery" differs from "non-slavery"? A slave is not paid for what he has done, but for what he is. Yes, they pay him - they contain him, that is, they feed, clothe, place him for the night, provide some kind of medical care, often form (at least in the professional field). This is the price for being there. And he did something or did not do it - this does not affect his income in any way, and therefore, of course, it is more convenient for him to do nothing.

Here in the USSR there was a real slave system, to which we were accustomed and which we learned. We were "paid" for what we were, available, and not at all for what we did. Remember, any initiative of an employee, any of his rationalization or any other proposal was suppressed by the authorities in the most severe way.

Why? Because in order to implement this initiative, firstly, it was necessary to somehow tear one’s fifth point away from the “leader’s chair” and at least just understand the proposed innovation, and then legalize it (nothing more!). Secondly, and this is perhaps the most significant (without this quality, the Soviet structures were not allowed into the “leading chair” at all), you need to disturb your bosses in turn. After all, if yours, as a boss, the enterprise begins to overfulfill the plan, this will require a change. master plan, and then, God forbid, spreading this experience to other similar offices. And this is, as you understand, a real headache, confusion, anxiety!

No, in our country, such heads of production could not find any support, and at the first opportunity they completely removed from their seats as uncomfortable. And after all, they were really uncomfortable: if no one "does anything, and someone starts doing something, he worries those who do nothing. It is impossible to put up with such "troublemakers" categorically! - this principle was professed by the entire Soviet system , and therefore it has become a psychological stereotype, sitting in each of us, in each of those who made up the "human mass" of this system.

We are used to sitting exactly on our fifth point, being in complete confidence that this "sitting" is work. It's not like that, it's not like that at all! But if you ask a domestic worker: “What did you do this afternoon?”, - and he will answer: “I was at work.” Note: I didn’t work, I didn’t do this and that, but “I was at work.” It is in this very wording, denoting not the performance of an activity, but a pastime "at work", that our main Russian trouble is hidden, which, contrary to the prevailing opinion, is by no means foolish and not on the road, but that by work we mean the departure of some kind of conscription, and not at all constructive, creative labor. This slave conscription is absolutely inefficient, it is not competitive. Slave labor is the most commercially untenable labor. And in this case, not only employers suffer, but first of all the workers themselves. Ultimately, here all in one harness.

One of my patients, a major businessman, at the dawn of his business, when he had just arrived from the United States, having studied Western management there, immediately encountered Russian reality here, which shocked him in the literal sense of the word. Here is how it was. He created a company in Moscow that was engaged in wholesale purchases and distribution food products. The company's warehouse worked around the clock, because, as you know, who gets up early, God gives him, and who does not go to bed at all, he will obviously reap the best harvest. Although, of course, at night the number of customers who needed to replenish the shelves of their stores was small, but still they were, hence the opening hours.

At night, one employee remained at the warehouse, since, as I already said, there were few things to do at that time. And so the representatives of the night shift came to their employer with claims, and with two at once: firstly, he pays little, and secondly, let him equip a sleeping place.

It just struck me then, - a domestic “Western-style manager” told me. - They asked me for two things at the same time: to increase their salary and equip the bed so that they can sleep during the work for which I had to increase their salary! IN night shift there is really little work, but why is it necessary to pay more for this “little”? A sleeping place can be arranged - well, since there is no work, let them sleep. But what difference does it make where you sleep - at home or at work? Why, in this case, do you have to pay for sleep at work? And after all, I paid them like for a day shift, where there really is plenty to do! But they wanted more! Can you imagine?!

Well, comments are superfluous. The logic of the “Western manager” is absolutely justified, but our person is used to getting paid not for working at work, but for spending time on it. If we continue to reason like this, then, most likely, we will never live better. If you want to earn money, you must work, and the business of the company should be your business, because if the company works poorly, then its income will be low, therefore, wages there is simply nothing to pay.

Someone will say that our domestic employer, even receiving excess profits, will not raise the salary of its employees. I agree, for the most part, our employer's brains are not much better than those of his employees (although the further you go, the more exceptions to this rule become). But think about this: if the firm starts earning more, then it will inevitably expand, which means that it will increase the number of leadership (at various levels) positions that are paid higher than those in which most of its employees are currently located. If you are a promising and reliable specialist, then, it is true, if these positions appear, they will be offered to you, that is, your salary will inevitably increase.

But we continue to talk the old fashioned way, think of our employers as “exploiters”, refuse to work at full capacity, and as a result, we ourselves do not develop (which is very sad, because without our own professional development we can't achieve anything), and our job (in the sense that we work in it) is not growing, and therefore our chances of promotion are minimal. The old means are being used: inciting bosses and disgusting sycophancy. And as a result, the business still suffers, and in the end, our own well-being.

An employer is a father in the whole civilized world, because he provides people with the opportunity to earn money, but in our, domestic reality, he is either a “bourgeois” who “grabbed” something for himself, or, in best case, "fool-boss". And after all, even if he “grabbed” something, my God, he has now given you the opportunity to earn money! Thank God that he "grabbed", it's a pity that he "grabbed" a little more! And how not to be a “fool-boss” if all employees look at him as a “fool” and categorically, I emphasize, categorically pose as sheep who do not understand anything and will not do anything - at least cut them!

In any case, we must remember the rule, which is not difficult to deduce from the case told by my patient mentioned here: you always have to choose - either a bed or an allowance, but there simply is no other way. And by the way, if I were these workers, I would hold on to such a leader with my hands and feet, really, he knows what he is doing.

Don't Sell Your "Values", Fulfill Your "Needs"

Now one more important nuance. The formula that we are about to consider now looks very much like the previous one. We just talked about the fact that the money lies in front of us, but we don’t need to chase after it. Now we will talk about success (and for some, success is money), which always catches up with the one who works. In general, the effectiveness of this rule is quite obvious: work and be successful, and if you don’t work, then you can’t count on success either.

However, such an “ideological poster” will probably upset many of my compatriots: “What, we are again offered to work?! We, you know, worked, worked, but what did we have?! We've been "fucked"! Let's not work and that's it! I consider this emotional outburst, on the one hand, quite natural, since there is a lot of bitter truth in such a remark, on the other hand, I do not think that negativism, i.e. refusal of the proposal (in this case work) can be productive.

Combining both, I understand that some kind of psychological trick is needed, or, in other words, some kind of psychological trick that allows us to transcend our own negativism and move along the path of constructive creation of our own life. This is the psychological trick I intend to offer to my reader, annoyed by such a life. What does it consist of?

Usually, when we pronounce the word “work”, an image of a hard worker-martyr arises in our minds, who works tirelessly and does not receive any return, and if he gets anything, the amount of this “pay” does not compensate for the efforts he has expended, oh “ fabulous profits," I'm not talking about. Of course, with such an attitude to the matter, doing this business becomes simply unbearable, we experience the most terrible psychological discomfort and begin to consistently resist our own activity, reducing it and its results to nothing.

That's why we need to treat work differently, not the way we treated it before. If you perceive work not as a "real punishment", not as a "slave duty", not as a "sad necessity", then the situation will change, your own sense of the situation will change, and you yourself will change. If you begin to perceive work in the same way as you perceive your own actions during a banal romantic flirting, if you are looking for in this work not “earnings” and not “working off”, but satisfaction of your needs (what you are looking for in your romantic flirting), then the situation is changing dramatically.

As a rule, our attitude to business cannot be called thoughtful. We treat it as a kind of bondage or duty. At the same time, our business is something that we cannot do without, and not because it is necessary to obtain funds for survival, but because without business every person settles, like a snowman with the advent of heat. If we want to be successful, we must understand that we need business like air, we will simply suffocate without it, we will have nowhere to spend our strength, and our strength is something that is constantly born in us, something that requires our spending . You can, of course, come up with some kind of senseless spending, but, really, if you have the means, is it really reasonable to throw them away?

So what should be done? Read and don't faint: sell your needs. Yes, yes, I did not make a reservation! When you flirt with the object of your love, you are trying to do just that - to foist your needs on him (her) (in this case, primarily sexual and erotic). As you know from your own experience, this is far from always possible (which is why flirting should be treated like work, which is discussed below). But in relation to work, this strategy, on the contrary, is most welcome. Moreover, it simply cannot fail.

We repeat: if we want to be successful in the affairs of work, we must learn to sell our needs. Suppose I am a doctor by profession (which, by the way, is true) - what are my needs in this regard? I spent no less than 10 years finding my specialty: I studied, practiced and studied again. I now know how human body what he is sick with, what kind of diseases and how to treat them - I studied this at a medical school (6 years) and in an internship in therapy (1 year). I also know what human psyche how her work can be disturbed, what these violations consist of, as well as how a person with such disorders can be helped, including both medication and psychological assistance. This knowledge was obtained by me during the training of psychiatry (1 year) and psychotherapy (2 years). So it's been 10 years...

Do you think I wanted to work out my efforts? Would you like to? Or, after spending 10 years of your life getting a highly specialized education, did you want to forget that you became a professional in a certain field? No, I don't want to forget what I know and can do, I don't want the knowledge and skills I've acquired to smolder and thin inside my amnesiac brain. I spent on my education forces and means, days and nights; mountains of textbooks and specialized literature have been read, hundreds of experiments and studies have been carried out, and daily duty and now there are already many hundreds of treated patients and almost a hundred published scientific papers! No, I have a need to put the capital I have accumulated - my knowledge and skills - into play, I want it to work for me now.

Imagine a doctor who thinks like this: “Damn it, I have to go back to this damn job! Again look at these, so that they fall through the ground, sick. Listen to everything they tell me, diagnose their disease states, prescribe treatment for them, take responsibility for their recovery, and then persuade them to be treated!” Of course, with such an attitude to the matter, it is easier to shoot yourself right away and not torturing yourself, your patients, or anyone else.

However, if this doctor is aware of his own need to realize the capital that he has accumulated over many years of study and practice, if he considers his work as an opportunity to receive "profit" on his investments, is this how he will relate to his work? And how will he treat in this case? Which doctor would you personally like to be treated by: one who goes to his job, like Calvary, carries, so to speak, his cross ... red, or you still choose the one who wants to satisfy his need to be in demand in his own way? specialties? I think that I will not be mistaken if I answer for you: “To the second! Only for the second! Exclusively for the second!

Will this second doctor - the one who not only treats the patient, but realizes his need for professional demand - be a good doctor? There is no doubt about this. And if his work is successful, will he improve professionally? Of course. And if he improves professionally, will he be a successful doctor? Will his fees go up? Will other doctors learn from his experience? In other words, will he enjoy recognition and authority among colleagues? Yes, yes, and yes again. And now I want to ask you about whether this doctor was chasing success or allowed him, this success of his, to catch up with him? I think that you will agree with me: success was not his goal, he only wanted and satisfied his need. Success had no choice but to catch up with our doctor.

But why doctors? A person of any profession would find himself in a completely analogous situation, if he did not pursue success, but satisfies his need in his business. And after all, all that was needed for this was just to perform a little psychological trick: to give up success, start satisfying your need and be overtaken by your success!

Remember: if you want to be successful, you must change your attitude to work, now you must perceive it differently. Work is no longer "work", not "hard work", not "martyrdom". Work is an opportunity to satisfy one's need, it is an opportunity to sell one's need, it is, finally, an opportunity to improve oneself by satisfying and selling one's need. You begin to invest the profits from your investment, i.e. expand. Success in this case is guaranteed, and notice that you are not chasing success, but only letting it catch up with you.

2009th. The year of the crisis... It has become a year of a kind of stop, when you need to think and look at yourself and your life from the outside. I, like many who were shaken by the crisis, realized with horror that I was drawn into a frenzied whirlpool of a million-strong society of consumers living in thousands of cities of a well-fed civilization. Rushing on weekends with carts full of products, scouring fashion boutiques in search of a trendy item, buying hundreds of kilograms of building material for new repairs in houses and apartments, taking bags of useless rubbish out of the house and making amends from time to time good life timid gestures of charity... Here is such an unattractive picture of self-identification in a crowd of similar ones. I will not hide, I did not like this picture ...

GUIDE TO ACTION - WORK HARD

But how to change yourself and get out of the faceless mass that has fallen into the millstones of civilization? We have become too accustomed to a comfortable life during the previous years of relative stability. And I also lived, guided by two simple principles. First, never be jealous that someone else has more, but think about how to work harder and achieve the same. And, secondly, never think about how to save money and spend less. It is better to think about where to earn more, I thought. It is obvious that an important guide to action flowed from these principles - to work hard. And I worked honestly and hard, fully rewarded for my work good earnings. And she spent more and more, according to her increasing earnings, confidently becoming a full member of the consumer society, in which there was almost no place for high goals ...

    MONEY WILL COME TO YOU

The year 2009, especially for many, passed under the flag of the material: everyone around was anxiously talking about money. What will happen to the accumulated funds? In what currency should they be stored? Will the salary decrease and how much will the bonuses be cut? Should I buy expensive things or is it better to put my savings in a distant box for a "rainy day"? And - oh horror! - where to make money in this dark time? .. To be honest, some of these questions arose in me too. The crisis, like a black cloud covering the horizon, loomed menacingly over our once carefree existence. Uncertainty brought chaos to the usual, planned life. Fueled by an inflated crisis fever to an incredible extent, people were rushing with frantic acceleration in the turmoil of the panic that had overwhelmed them. And obeying the herd mentality, I ran like crazy. Until one person (once a graduate of my own university, and now a very important official) stopped me with his, as it seemed to me then, just a brilliant idea. “Don't run after money,” he said to a hushed audience at a business event.

Don't aim for high salaries. Don't work for money. Just work hard. For pleasure. And money? The money will come to you." At that very moment, I suddenly realized that in these simple words amazing harmony. The harmony of labor and enjoyment of the life given to us. And I began to learn to work differently. I slowed down and suspended my fussy nervous pace of life. Getting up at five in the morning to work in order to be in time for the metropolitan traffic jams for a nine-hour lecture, I suddenly began to notice how beautiful the sun was rising among the unsightly high-rise buildings. How amazing nature is during the transition from a warm golden autumn to a dank and damp beginning of winter.

How colorful are the faces of my students from dozens of countries of the world, but the eyes are kind and sincere in this diversity. How beautiful it is to look at the vast, unknown world through the eyes of a child - my growing daughter ... I am learning to be more tolerant and kinder. And most importantly, work becomes only a continuation of my new life, where completely different values come to the fore.

This year has become for me a year of great discoveries - discoveries that have changed my attitude to life and made me see many previously inconspicuous things. And money? Oddly enough, but they did not decrease. But for some reason now I don’t want to think about them at all ...

Anna Sardaryan, creative editor of the magazine

If they find you on their own, well, great. But all the traditional rules of success lead nowhere, because they focus on results, not on the process of life. Results appear from time to time, but life itself - actions, thoughts, existence - happens all the time. No result can pay for a miserable life.

If you hate what you do, power and money won't make up for it. If your life is one of stress, boredom or frustration, how can high status justify all those miserable days and weeks that you have achieved this status? I would like to think that the ends will justify any means, that you will forget about suffering in the brilliance of achievements. You will forget - for a couple of minutes. And then you will return to the "treadmill", with a timid hope that you will be consoled by new achievements or profits.

Spend as much time as you like figuring out what matters most to you.

Success is not only about money, power or prestige. You can achieve all of this and still feel like you're missing something; or you can be left without all three “components” and be fulfilled and insanely happy.

Only you can determine the ingredients for success. And they have much less to do with choosing a profession that is prestigious in someone's eyes or a fashionable job with them than with achieving what really matters to you. Many people realize this too late. They struggle for years to be where others want them to be. Only to realize that it does not give them anything. And it usually happens too late to do anything else.

Do not choose based on the approval of others

We all want to please those who are important to us. And it's so natural to do what they like. Naturally, but this can hardly be the basis for a life choice. I am not saying that you should deliberately ignore all advice or give up a career just because other people suggest it. But even the most loving parents and friends can't always see what makes your heart sing. Listen to others. Appreciate their input and support. But go your own way. It's better to do what you really love than to do something you don't like for approval.

    stay real

It means to always do what is meaningful to you and reflects your essence. The simplest definition of a hypocrite is a person who says one thing and does another. Like someone who thinks he wants to be of service to society and then forgets about it when he sees a stack of banknotes. There's a part of you somewhere that knows exactly what's important. And he will never let you completely forget about it. Over the years inner voice it only gets louder.

    Always prefer meaning to money

It's very feasible to do something mindless and make a lot of money doing it. So many do, especially in the world of show business. You just need to have more than many, cynicism, and resistance to boredom. Is it worth it? Meaningless days harm the mind and destroy. And something significant almost always makes you feel alive and full of energy. This is your choice.

Be infinitely greedy - for knowledge

You can never overload your brain with new ideas. Nothing can be more useful than a developed organized mind. It's hard to name just one successful person, which would be stupid or limited. The list of stunning victories that people owe to the power of their minds will be very long. And you don't need an expensive education. A large number of brilliant people were practically self-taught.

    Make friends with failure

Of course, sometimes you will fail. And the higher your bar, the more frequent and significant these defeats can be. Only those who need nothing never fail; they risk nothing and achieve no more than what can be guaranteed. And if failure is only an enemy for you, you will only feel depressed, and perhaps even leave. Defeat can be a friend, indicating that something else is wrong. Talking about how you can do better. The more skillfully you can learn from failures, the faster you will succeed.

Spend time with the right people

I don't mean the rich and powerful. The best people The ones you can spend time with are the ones you can learn a lot from. People whose own lives bring them happiness and endless satisfaction. It means people who love what they do and do what they love. People who have become experts in life, thinking people, people with open hearts.

Look for them wherever you can find them. Don't let the fact that one of them is no longer alive stop you. Read their books and comprehend the greatness of their spirit. Learn from them, but don't just copy what they did. It was only right for them, and it may not be right for you. But you can understand the ways they responded to the challenges of the world; the very process of their life, and not what (it just so happened) it contained.

Leave everything that goes against these principles

It means anything that won't lead you to what matters; everything that prevents you from developing; anything that makes you waste time and dulls your senses; all those people who do not let you go forward. You may have to be ruthless sometimes. But everyone has only one life. If you waste it, there won't be another chance. In addition, if you have been able to wisely choose your aspirations and dreams, all that you have to leave behind will not be worth worrying about anyway. And those who make bad choices realize that they left something that was much more than anything they could get in return.
