Handout for the attestation commission. Creation of handouts and presentations in MS Power Point. Basic rules for presentation design: compose a speech

The defense of the graduation project will largely depend on how beautifully and competently you present the material. In this sense, a presentation is not just work with slides, but also a report. Subject to its competent development, it will depend on how carefully you will be listened to, as well as the final grade.

So, it is important not only to be able to choose the necessary information for the presentation, but also its high-quality presentation to the audience. And so General requirements to the design of presentations, the observance of which will help you get the coveted diploma.

Basic rules for presentation design: compose a speech

Students are usually given 10 minutes to present their thesis. You should not exceed this limit if you want to fully control the attention of your listeners.

The report should contain concise abstracts reflecting the main stages of the work performed. Try to follow the following sequence of actions:

  • greetings;
  • title of the topic of work;
  • description of the goals and objectives of the work;
  • the degree of development and relevance of the study;
  • description of the progress of work;
  • conclusions and results;
  • thanks to the listeners.

Before the presentation, the report must be rehearsed at home. Each person has a different timbre and speed of speech. To invest in the specified time, you need to independently dictate the work with a stopwatch.

When giving a presentation, try not to use little-known terms and overly clever phrases. Listeners can ask for clarification of their concept, and this takes additional time from the total time of the presentation.

And another tip: do not neglect such a procedure as pre-protection. This is your unique opportunity to rehearse your speech, pre-study the location of the defense, and deal with the excitement ahead.

Basic requirements for presentation design: technical points

PowerPoint is a great tool designed to make the already difficult work of graduates preparing a presentation easier. With this program, you can easily do the following:

  1. Create slides and manipulate them.
  2. Insert text into slides.
  3. Provide greater clarity through the use of illustrations.
  4. For greater persuasiveness, use graphs, tables, formulas.
  5. Give a special mood with a rich choice of backgrounds.
  6. Manipulate text sizes, types, and colors.

However, this should not be overdone either. Too bright text will tire listeners. Do not forget - teachers listen to 10-15 presentations a day. And if each student focuses on the visual side of the defense, after the first student, the audience will lose interest in everyone else.

A few days before the proposed protection, adjust the automatic slide change. By adjusting the timing of the slide show, you can fully rely on technology and not depend on the requests of colleagues who have to change images with each stroke of your pointer.

Each diagram, table, graph should have its own titles and serial numbers.

Design features of presentation handouts

If you plan to use important graphic information with a lot of data in your presentation, it is better to prepare a handout for the audience in advance. Members of the commission will be able to get to know your research more closely, with the data of tables, graphs, diagrams, without interrupting you during your speech.

Ideally, try to print out the whole presentation for the committee members so that the teachers can follow your thought without being distracted by the technical side.

Even if the printed version completely duplicates the information from the slides, this will help improve the perception of your report.

Not everyone has the proper ability and skills to use special presentation programs. And if you are sorely short of time to prepare it, it is best to seek help from experienced professionals who will help you in a short time

When teaching schoolchildren, various means are used - textbooks, notebooks on a printed basis, as well as various handouts.

But what is it and what is it used for? Next, we will analyze these questions with you, and also talk about how to properly apply it during the lesson.

What it is

First, let's figure out what it is and what exactly it is used for.

Handouts are special cards containing basic information on a particular topic, tasks and exercises. Often, cards are used to diversify the lesson, to make it more intense.

You can use the dispenser as primary school as well as in the senior level.

With the handout, you can:

  • Give multiple tasks at the same time. Note that in this case, stronger students receive cards with complex tasks, while weaker ones work with simple ones, respectively.
  • Conduct more efficiently individual work with students.
  • Save time in the classroom by increasing the density of the lesson.
  • Evaluate the work of each student during the lesson.
  • Minimize the work of the teacher and students with the board.
  • Organize work in pairs or small groups.

In addition, having pre-prepared cards at hand, the teacher will never worry that there is too much free time left at the end of the lesson. If the students completed the planned work earlier, give them a handout. The class will be busy completing tasks from the cards until the end of the lesson.

How to work

As you can see, task cards are a very useful thing, especially if you are a beginner teacher. Such cards can be either made independently or bought in specialized stores or ordered via the Internet. But what if you already have a handout but still don't know how to use it?

First of all, review the cards you have. Decide which of them belong to which topic.

Now let's say you're in a math class and you want to apply what you've got. To do this, invite the guys to complete the task from the cards. Here you can either distribute the handouts in mathematics according to the level of knowledge of your students, or you can invite them to choose ordinary or more difficult tasks, indicating in advance the level of difficulty of the card and an approximate mark for the correct completion of tasks.

After the children receive the cards, ask them to read the tasks and, if they have questions, ask them. Then the students can get to work.

Note that it is desirable to regulate the time of work with cards.

Also, one student or a group can work with one handout.

conclusions

Handouts are one of the teaching aids. With it, you can diversify the lesson, make it more intense, take stronger students, or even use the time left before the bell.

Handout

  • 1 The handout is prepared in 7-8 copies and distributed before the defense of the WRC to each member of the state examination committee. One copy of the material is used by the student during the defense to answer questions.
  • 2 The handout is drawn up on A4 white paper, provided with a title page and stapled or stapled. An example of the design of the title page is given in Appendix P.
  • 3 The content (table of contents) of the WRC is placed on the second sheet of the handout in the form in which it is given in the text part. It is permissible to reduce the font to 12 numbers and exclude the indication of attachments in order to place the content of the text part on one page. Other changes in the content text are not allowed.
  • 4 Sheets of handouts are numbered starting from the third sheet.
  • 5 The content of the handout is determined by the graduating department.
  • 6 The numbering of figures and tables in the handout may be continuous (separately for tables and figures), but the numbering specified in the PP or TD may be retained.
  • 7 All given figures and tables should be referenced in the text of the report.

Example 1: "the dynamics of changes in liquidity indicators is presented in the table (if necessary, indicate the number of the table) on page ___ of the handout."

Example 2: "proposed organizational structure management is given on sheet _____ of the handout.

It is unacceptable to provide figures and tables that are not referenced in the report. Tables and figures follow in the handout as they are mentioned in the text of the report.

  • 8 Tables and figures should most fully reflect the results obtained during the WRC. The theory chapter may not be presented in the handout. The results obtained in the design chapter of the WRC should be most reflected in the handout, and the rationale for the effectiveness of the proposed activities should be presented on the final sheet (s). The numbering of tables and figures is through (for example, figure 1, figure 2, etc.).
  • 9 Volume of handout - up to 15 sheets. As an addition to the handout, promotional materials, booklets, photographs on the subject of the WRC may be attached.
  • 10 One copy of the handout is enclosed in a folder with the text part of the WRC and is handed over to the Secretary of the SEC.
  • 11 As visual aids, for the most clear reflection of the graduate's speech, demonstration graphic material can be additionally drawn up on white paper in standard formats. It should contain some of the tables and figures from the WRC that are not included in the handout. The number of sheets of demonstration graphic material must be at least 2.
  • 12 A sheet of demonstration graphic material must contain:
    • - title;
    • - necessary images and inscriptions (drawings, diagrams, tables, graphs, diagrams, etc.);
    • - explanatory text (if necessary).
  • 13 Demonstration graphic material must meet the requirements of the greatest clarity and be freely visible from a distance of 2-4 m. To do this, each demonstration sheet should be made on drawing paper of standard formats: the minimum sheet format is A3 (297x420 mm), the maximum is A1 (594x841 mm).
  • 14 The title of the demonstration sheet should be short and correspond to its content. The heading is placed at the top of the sheet in the middle. The title should be in font no less than No. 14.
  • 15 It is allowed to make images on demonstration sheets in color and repeatedly, while the accepted color (and digital) designations must be explained.
  • 16 Demonstration sheets of VKR, KP and KR related to the development and creation of ACS (AS) must be carried out taking into account the requirements of GOST 24.302 and GOST 24.303.

WRC presentation

  • 1 The report on the defense of the WRC (KP, KR) may be accompanied, at the discretion of the department, by an electronic presentation. Illustrative material designed in the form of slides electronic presentation, serves to increase the expressiveness of the speech, a more convincing and visual presentation of the work in the process of the report.
  • 2 The content of the electronic presentation slides is determined by the graduate and the supervisor of the final qualification work.
  • 3 The file carrier with the presentation is signed, enclosed in an envelope on the back of the cover of the PP or TD and submitted together with the text part.

A handout is a brochure or leaflet that clearly presents the most significant provisions of the thesis. It is received by all members of the attestation commission before the speaker's speech.

The final grade for the diploma may depend on how well the handout is composed. A properly structured and designed brochure will make it easier for members of the commission to understand the topic and fill in the gaps in the oral report, which will save the student from tricky additional questions.

For handouts, there are official rules training that all undergraduates must follow. In addition, there are a number of psychological nuances that should be taken into account in order to win over the commission.

Decor

For handouts, the rules for issuing a thesis work are relevant:

  • cards with materials are printed on standard A4 office paper with a density of 80gsm. Printing is single-sided only;
  • text color - black, color of pictures is variable;
  • font - Times New Roman, size 14. Line spacing - 1.5;
  • width of the left field - 3 cm, right - 1 cm, top and bottom - 2 cm each;
  • all figures and tables are numbered with Arabic numerals;
  • pages, except for the title page, are numbered;
  • all sheets are sewn into a folder;
  • the page is oriented vertically. The exception is for pages with large tables.

Handout only rules:

  • on title page indicate the full name of the educational institution, faculty, the name of the brochure - “Illustrative / handout for thesis”, full name of the student and supervisor;
  • one sheet contains one figure, one diagram or table in the size of the entire page;
  • Headings are larger than text.

Please note that the handout is not part of the thesis and is collected separately.

Structure

The structure of the handout also duplicates the structure of the final qualifying work.

It includes:

  • title page;
  • introduction - the most important part of the introductory part of your thesis;
  • part 1 - the purpose and objectives of the study, complex terms, conclusions by chapter;
  • part 2 - visual information;
  • part 3 - extract from the practical part. Here you need to effectively present your own developments;
  • the final part is the conclusions on the entire work.

How to write a handout

It is advisable to include the following information in the brochure:

  • purpose of the work, tasks, relevance and scientific novelty. You can visualize this in the form of a mind map;
  • tables, graphs, diagrams, drawings, diagrams - something that is not a solid text;
  • methods and methodology;
  • the practical value of the work done and the result obtained;
  • recommendations for project implementation (if any);
  • information on the results of the project implementation in production (if any).

You should not transfer the entire section "Appendix" to the handout. Select the illustrations that contain the most important data for the study and present the work in a profitable way.

Approximate volume: 10-15 pages. If you get more, remove the excess: the members of the commission may not have time to review and analyze all the information from the brochure.

In some universities, it is allowed to use a printout of a presentation for defense as a handout. Check with the dean's office or supervisor if this is allowed in your educational institution. If not, try not to duplicate data from the presentation in the brochure - rather, reduce the amount of handouts.

Nuances to keep in mind when defending

In graduate works of a humanitarian orientation, illustrative material may be almost completely absent. In this case, it is worth including the main theses in the handout, schematically presenting the key part research work, briefly describe the results of the work and proposals for the development of the topic.

The brochure materials should be presented in the same sequence as the presentation slides and follow the outline of the defense speech. Rehearse your presentation a few times to make sure this condition is met and correct your speech or handouts if not.

The advantage of the handout is that it demonstrates conclusions that are too cumbersome for presentation and difficult to listen to. Be sure to include them in your brochure.

Keep in mind that not all of the committee members may be competent in your field of study, and even more so, not all of them have worked on your topic in depth. Therefore, do not get carried away describing the specific aspects of your activity. Instead, stop at basic concepts and phenomena. If you cannot do without highly specialized information, try to explain what was said in one or two sentences.

During the presentation, do not forget to indicate when the audience will need to refer to the handouts.

Many students choose visual and thoughtful multimedia presentations for their graduation projects or are solved. At the same time, one should not forget about the handout for the study, which must be presented to each member of the certification committee. And this applies even to multimedia presentations. Handouts are not only an opportunity to visually demonstrate your work, but also an excellent insurance in case the multimedia presentation is under threat due to external circumstances.

The handout is compiled by the student and completely depends on the content of the study, but there are requirements for its design. Following certain rules will help to correctly present the work and make a good impression on the commission.

It is convenient to arrange graphs and tables in the form of a brochure; you can also combine the material into a folder. When writing, use the same font and size that is approved for the entire thesis. They are necessarily numbered, they should be placed in the sequence that is assumed by the performance. Note that the abstract to the study is also included in the list of materials. For those students preparing multimedia presentations, it is recommended to add small comments to each slide.

The title page for handouts is drawn up according to the same rules that exist for the title page of the diploma. The title is called as follows: "Handout for the thesis on the topic ...". They include all kinds of schemes, tables, illustrations, diagrams describing the studies that were carried out in the work. An important requirement is compliance with volumes. So, all the material should fit on 15 sheets of standard format. If the specified volume is exceeded, then the information will become simply inconvenient for perception.

It is important that each member of the commission has enough folders or brochures with tables and graphs, otherwise a negative attitude towards the speech can be formed. It is better to make several additional copies in order to prepare for unexpected developments. For example, the appearance of one or more teachers at the defense of a diploma.

The handout helps to visually demonstrate the main theses of the work, to highlight the practical part of the study. To illustrate your work well, you need to take a responsible approach to compiling the material: choose the right information, correctly format it. Note that it is better to draw up graphs and diagrams together with the supervisor. A quality handout will help make a good impression on the committee and increase your chances of getting a good grade for your research.
